Week one done!

Week one of whole 30 (ish, I’ve kind of cheated this week) and boot camp is done. Boot camp on Wednesday kicked my butt. My asthma flared up and I had a really hard time breathing. Today I made sure to take a couple of puffs off of my inhaler and that helped. Or maybe the workout was easier? Guess we’ll see next week!

Tomorrow morning I’m starting back up with Couch 2 5k. I’d love to be able to run a 10k by October. I’ll do that on my days I’m not doing boot camp and take 1 day off a week.

Boot camp class #2

I attended my 2nd bootcamp class this morning. Man getting up at 5am to be there at 5:45 was rough. Not as hard as I thought it would be, but this is definitely a change for me.

There were 4 of us in class this morning so the atmosphere was a lot more exciting for me. I like the social aspect of the class a lot and I’m really glad it’s limited to 6 women.

I was pleasantly surprised that the exercises weren’t too hard for me to do, the hardest were the jump lunges. The easiest and most fun were the punching bag punches.  Lots of aggression to get out 😉 I kid I kid!

Next class is Wednesday and I can’t wait!

Back on the wagon

After eating not great for a week and drinking more than usual, I’m really looking forward to getting back to eating Whole 30 compliant tomorrow.  I’ve also got another boot camp class at 5:45 tomorrow morning! I’m sure I’ll be very sore come Tuesday, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Adding exercise

Now, obviously I’m never going to get in shape and fit with diet alone. So today I started boot camp classes with Bridgeport Fitness. I originally heard about Renea (the owner/trainer) from my neighbor Kristina. Kristina’s son goes to the same school as Renea’s son (the same my daughter will go to in the fall as well) and she’d attended some of the classes and really liked them.

I have to say, for the first time ever, I loved the class too. They’re 30 minute HIIT classes and have a limit of 6 women (women only to boot!) per class and you do 6 circuits in 1 minute intervals.  Other than the burpees (because really, no one likes burpees) it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed not having to deal with a lot of people and I felt like I was getting more individual attention as well.

I’m signed up for 10 classes total, so it’ll be interesting to see how I feel/look in a couple of weeks.

Eating healthy and delicious

Don’t think you can eat healthy and delicious? Wrong my friend. This is my favorite part about doing the whole 30. Actually enjoying what I am eating and knowing that I’m not eating food that is bad for me or chock full of chemicals.

This mornings breakfast: (serves 2)
1 medium potato
3oz all natural sausage
1/2 red bell pepper
1 handful of mushrooms (sliced)
2 organic brown eggs (whisked together)
Salsa or hot sauce (optional)

I shredded the potato with my Pampered Chef ultimate mandolin, but you could use a cheese grater as well. I then started frying up the sausage, crumbling it as it cooked. I added in the peppers, potatoes and then the mushrooms. When the mixture is 90% cooked, I add in the eggs and scramble away.  Let the eggs cook through and you’re done!

Knock knock.. This thing on?

I know, I know, it’s been a LONG time since I posted anything.  I have no real reason as to why, just sheer forgetfulness.  I get sucked into updating Facebook about everything in 140 character updates (or more?) and pictures that I forget that I have an actual blog.

Well, it’s time to dust it off and I’m going to start by blogging about my fitness journey.  As most of you know, I had a hysterectomy last fall and have taken quite a bit of time to get back up and “running” aka, feeling human again.  Add that into just gaining old lady weight last summer and I’m stuck.  I’m stuck and feeling FAT.

So, now it’s time to get real.  The month of May I did a trial run at eating Whole 30 compliant.  I had a hard time sticking to it simply because May is full of fun stuff for us, between Mothers day, my birthday, our anniversary and Kara’s birthday, there is a lot of partying to do and with partying comes bad food choices.

But June is quiet and I should be able to stick to it quite well! So starting June 1st, I’m back on the Whole30 wagon and I’ll be working out 5 days a week again.  Watch this space for more details soon.
